Integrating security solutions for a better security system
Video transcripts:
Integration is a much-talked-about topic in the security sector and is a critical factor
in the move toward cloud-based solutions. True integration can offer a raft of benefits
for end-users and plays an important part in the fight against cybercrime. But what
actually is integration and what can it offer?
Broadly speaking, there are three levels of integration:
The most basic is just integration via inputs and outputs, such as you’d find between
the access control and fire alarm system in a building, where the alarm automatically
opens the doors.
The next level brings events from a certain number of systems into one management tool,
making it easier to monitor different aspects of the system.
Lastly, there is full integration, such as you’d find in a building management system.
This takes all the different systems across a business, pulls them together, and gives
the user the maximum amount of control and reporting power – which can have a significant,
positive impact on ROI for the end user.
The challenge for those of us providing these systems to end users is helping them to understand
what it is they actually need. Which can be easier said than done when often they’re
not entirely sure of this themselves! What this does mean, however, is that it can offer
a distinct competitive advantage to installers willing to take the time to guide their customers
through the process.
Here are a few of the key questions that you could ask:
What integration is required?
To what level is the integration required?
Is the solution process driven?
Is there a process flow for operators available?
What expectations are there of the final solution?
Guiding customers through the process demonstrates your ability to add value to an installation
that far exceeds the benefits of simple security. This not only increases customer loyalty,
but can successfully lift the installer out of the grid of the price war. It also allows
you to benefit from more opportunities across different vertical markets.
