Pocket-size Buzz Episode 12: Wired Vs Wireless Security

In this episode of Pocket-size Buzz, we talk about when to use a wireless connection over a wired connection and the benefits that come with choosing wireless.

Wireless Connectivity for security

Video transcript:

Hi, welcome to Pocket-size Buzz, a series of videos for
the security industry that proves that  good things come in small packages!
When asked about using wired or  wireless connections, we usually
advise that wired is a better option due to  the inherent security advantage is offers.
However, wireless does have a place, especially  if there are physical or geographical deterrents
to installing wire, or because it’s not  financially viable to dig trenches.
It might be that a barrier  to access an estate has local
power but no communications and is  some 800m away. So, in this case,
wireless would be a good choice to bring video  and data back from an ANPR/Intercom solution,
helping to keep the cost of civil works  down and offering a workable solution.
If you do go wireless however, you must  consider important rules like line of sight,
enhanced encryption, site surveys  and testing before installation.
If you want to find about more about if wireless  technology can benefit you and your customer,
