Measuring What Matters – Brackets, Bandwidth and Smarter Security Installs

Security system performance isn’t just about cameras, sensors, or software; it’s also about the infrastructure that holds it all together. In today’s connected environments, brackets and mounting choices are digital performance decisions, not just physical ones.

This was the starting point for a study commissioned carried out by the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) on our Essentials by Vista range of Brackets

AMRC Study: How Bracket Positioning Impacts Network Performance

The aim was to test how the positioning of Wi-Fi access points (APs), mounted either in traditional setups or elevated on brackets, influences key metrics such as latency, download, and upload speeds.

The results confirmed what many field engineers have observed but rarely measured: the right bracket design improves coverage, reduces interference, and enhances network performance.

Testing was conducted in an active commercial environment to simulate real-world conditions. APs were installed at eight locations under two scenarios:

  • Scenario 1: APs placed on a standard table

  • Scenario 2: APs mounted at 6–8 feet using a custom-designed Essentials by Vista bracket

In locations such as LOC3 and LOC4 (test locations for our research), the difference was striking. Bracket-mounted APs achieved more than 30% higher download speeds compared to the tabletop setup. These were not optimal zones; they represented obstructed areas where poor placement often leads to poor performance.

But the elevated setup created measurable improvements. The findings are especially relevant for Norbain customers dealing with:

  • Heritage buildings or rental units, where drilling is restricted
  • Large warehouses or retail spaces require stable signal coverage
  • Time-sensitive installations, where rapid setup matters

The Essentials by Vista bracket used in the study clamps to existing infrastructure - no drilling, no mess, no rework. It’s a simple adjustment with outsized results: lower latency, higher throughput, and a more resilient network.

In security, every millisecond counts - whether you’re streaming live feeds, sending access logs, or ensuring uninterrupted coverage across your site. By choosing the right mounting solution, you’re not just supporting a device - you’re supporting system performance from the ground up.

Future-Proofing Security Networks with Essentials by Vista

At Norbain, we’re committed to delivering what you need, when and where you need it. With solutions like the Essentials by Vista brackets, we’re helping installers futureproof wireless deployments and deliver systems that just work, first time, every time.
